Vapor Pressure = 287.07mm Hg ( leave the sigi figi to you )

I really hate college, I hated it last year and I hate it this year too. What would you do?

I hated college last year, and I hate it this year.

Its rubbish, I like nothing about it.

Its nothing like the teachers at my secondary school made it out to be.

I wanted to leave all of last year, but stuck it out to the end.

All I got was C,C,U,U (U=Fail)

I didnt want to go back after the summer, but my tutor talked me around.

But I hate it still, I keep arguing with my tutor and teachers. I hate everything about it, i dont really have any friends there.

I just feel im wasting my time, but I dont just want to walk out only to realise in 5 years what a screw up I made. But theres only one way to find out if things screw up as a result.

The thing is, I dont need results... I have no ambitions in life to get any particular career.

So i was wondering, anyone felt like this before, what did you do?

Any regrets?

Any advice for moi?

I really hate college, I hated it last year and I hate it this year too. What would you do?
Since the human brain continues to grow until you are 29 year old, I would suggest that you take a break from college and find something that you really love doing. If you are doing something you love then it isn't work and right now you are not in love with school.

College is not for everyone nor should everyone pursue a college education. Some of the smartest people in history never went to college. Learn what you are interested in and go from there.

I didn't go to college for the first 10 years after HS. Going to a HS reunion opened my eyes. I found the students that went to college right after HS and got a degree didn't know any more than I did, (some less). I took different jobs until I found the one thing that I wanted to do. I then went back to community college at 30 and found that I wasn't crazy about what they taught but that I could deal with it because I knew that 2 years of community college and then 2 years at the university would get me to where I wanted to go. But I was working and supporting 2 children so my 4 year degree took 6years but was worth it, because now I am not working at a job, I am having fun with students......you see I am a teacher. :-)
Reply:Stick at it, you may not know your path, but the more qualifications you have the more options you have, unless you want a McJob, stick with it!
Reply:Well first of all if I were you I wouldn't spend a lot of money on college at this point if you are still looking for direction. Can you transfer to a community college and get your general classes out of the way? Maybe once you have completed two years at a community college you will have more direction as to what you want to do. After that you can transfer to a university and complete your degree. You will never regret completing your degree.....best of luck

Reply:I kind of feel like that right now. However I'm so close to finishing my degree that I'm going to grin and bear it simply because it would be much more expensive and inconvinient to finish it later. I want to drop out so bad believe me. I totally would if I knew exactly would I would do instead of going to school; But alas, I don't. So I think it would be safer for me to finish the degree and then take some time to do some self-searching to find my calling.

So, to answer your question it depends how far into your program you are in. However if you think you're going to go off the deep end and go nuts or kill someone then yeah maybe you oughta leave college and take a break. Maybe see a psychiatrist.

Reply:One of my family felt the same and decided to leave and got a job at a bank, 2 years later she has worked up the ladder and doing very well, her friends are way behind now as she took the leap that much earlier and worked hard, now on great money too.

Reply:I understand how you feel. I am in college and I don't really care for it either. However, I dropped out of college before and I regretted it which is why I am back there now. If you are failing classes and you feel like you are wasting your time I wouldn't advise you to stay. College isn't for everyone and besides, I know you do not want to waste your money paying for classes you're not receiving credit for if you fail them. Maybe this is not the right time for you to be in college. I took a 5 year hiatus before I returned to college. Perhaps you need to step away from it for now to evaluate your life and figure out which direction you want to go in and whether or not college is a necessary step in achieving any goals you may discover that you have. I wish you the best!
Reply:Try a technical school or something more hands on - that may be something that will hold your attention. There are also accredited colleges on line.

If you quit - you'll never know what you could have been.

Reply:Though i had different reasons to hate my college, i totally understand you. First of all you have to find our why you hate it in the first place.I guess you have more than one problem, so make up a list. I'm sure it's not because you are lazy. Most of the time people hate what they study. Sometimes parents force us into odd professions which they like but we have no idea of or incompetent at. some people go after their friends, some listen to their teacher's advice and some just ashamed to not go when everybody else does.

That's why young people need at least one year after school to think and decide. You can find a job during this time and earn your living so that noone could bother you with "you know what".

But education is very important, you could really regret it in future if you drop it. Just think of what you would love to study!

Reply:I know exactly what you are talking about but let me ask you why did you choose college life when you really are not interested,Maybe you have released later or maybe something else who cares .But the matter is you don't want it anymore!Right!

My suggestion is to not give up now.Later you will come to know that you would make another wrong step in your life by just simply giving up.

Try to find some sort of profession which you really like and start it along with your studies .

Always think positive.Life is a long way to go in a really short time !

You are right its not like school at all - you are supposed to be an adult now - I would suggest you get a job anything and just attend night school once or twice a week doing a subject you like - you will find people of all ages there - hopefully you will find some friends who are like minded. With both job and night school you will feel better about yourself and who knows - good results =University good luck anyway
Reply:College can be stressful. Maybe the college you're in just isn't a good fit. Do a little research online and see what kinds of reputations other colleges have.

I didn't know what to do until I was 35, but up until that point I was usually flat broke and usually had to take the first job that became available, whether I wanted it or not, just to keep a roof over my head.

The Department of Labor puts out a big book every 3-4 years with a list and description of every kind of legal occupation in the country, with explanations about education needed, wages, and expected demand in the near future. The health care field is constantly expanding, for example. This book is available in every public library.

Try something simple for awhile - try being a bartender. The training is minimal and the work pays well. Good luck!
Reply:You can quit and get a job, however most people get paid quite a bit more with a college education. I quit college after a year and a half and did physical labor for 32 years, and retired at the age of 52 after 28 years with UPS--I make a good retirement and live pretty well, but my hips and knees and back aren't too good after all those years of hard work. I quit college because I didnt know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life--its hard to decide when you are young. All you can do is lots of job research, ask people you know if they like their jobs and if they would recommend it to someone else. Pick a job then set your sights on it.

Reply:If I were you, I would transfer to a Community College or something a little more low key. You can at least get a two-year degree or learn a trade.

If you really have no motivation or desire to do anything with your life, then drop out. I don't recommend this because it's a quick fix to how you're feeling now. When you're fifty something and you have been making a low wage your entire life and have nothing to show for, you'll regret it.

This is the biggest opportunity you'll have in your life! Go to college now, whether it's a trade school, or a community college, or just a different school that's a better fit for you. Take classes you're interested in or at least put in a little effort.

First, know what you want to achieve in life. List the things you like/enjoy doing, who are the people you admire and their careers.

Second, plan on how you will reach/attain the things you've listed you want to achieve in life. Chances are it includes going to college. (This is the reason I think why you've asked this question. You know (deep in your heart) that a college diploma will help you have a great future.)

If this is the case, you should assess the reasons why you hate school so much. If you hate the professors, you can trying studying hard and preparing for their classes to outsmart them or show them that you are smarter than they think. If other students annoy you, avoid sitting next to them and focus more on the class discussions.

Also, find things to enjoy and do at school. Join organizations/clubs that share your interest. This way, you will have new friends and a support group as well.

You seems like a very intelligent person. The only reason I can think of why fail or get low grades is that you keep on looking at the negative side of going to college, instilling in your mind that you hate college.

I have experienced what you are experiencing right now. I used to hate attending classes. Now, I'm just sharing with you what I have done. I now have a college diploma and a wonderful career.

Just be optimistic. Look at the brighter side of things, always have goals and try to achieve them. Goodluck!!!

Reply:Take some time off from college. Get a job. Maybe being in the so called "real" world will help you figure out if college is meant for you. It isn't meant for everyone. I went to college at 17 for my basics and didn't go back till I was 24. By then I knew what I wanted. I now have a Bachelors Degree in Communication with a Minor in Spanish.
Reply:Wish I'd had the opportunity to go to college, I was brought up in care, didn't know what an O level was and was pretty much illiterate when I left aged 15 to start my working life.

I'm a bit of a maverick and have so far got by pretty much all right in life, but I've often wished that I'd learned the discipline of study. Also, I've always thought I missed out on social and networking and girls by not having an educational opportunity.

I can't really advise you from a peer perspective, but it sounds to me like you might lack motivation or enthusiasm. Maybe stop smoking spliff, work out, focus on winning, study harder, party, enjoy the moment and go for it, life is a buzz. You create your own reality, enjoying something or not is something you decide in your own head, it's a state of mind. You might be suffering depression, try some prozac for a couple of months, it's weird trippy stuff, but it works gives you a PG, ups your mood and alters perspective. Wouldn't recommend it as a long term solution, but to bounce you out of a downer, if thats what you are on.

okay so im 13[turning 14 in july] and in the 8th grade my goal this year at to at least get a 2.0 in my report card whish means all C's [you need a 2.0 to graduate]so far i have all C's and 2 A's my dad wants me to get all A's [he thinks you need need to get them to pass] to highschool.my dad hired a tutor for saturday and sunday! so i have no week off for me and my mom is on my side hat a C satsfies the school already!but he think a Cis that your about to fail.usually i need a tutor for highschool cuz it'll be more hard

and i have all E's which is exellent at least i finished 7th grade...

I agree with you, I mean people say you need good grades to get a good job and everything and no u don't! all you need to do is pass and just get by, because once you get older your job isn't going to look at your report card in middle school lol all they will look at is if you passed went to college and have a degree, so don't listen to your dad, do what you want and just make sure u r doing the best that you can do to get by and pass....goodluck!
Reply:Everyone needs at least one day off to relax. You do need help but if you never get a day off you can get very tense and not do well also.

My suggestion is to work harder on your studies after school and then maybe he will give you your weekends back. Prove to him you are capable of dealing with this yourself. I think youre smarter than your grades show simply because you can spell better than 80% of the kids in YA.
Reply:C's won't get you into college. Those will get you a job flipping burgers for the rest of your life and your dad knows this. He wants you to get good grades so you can be successful in life.

Reply:First, I will be honest. When I was in middle school, I was a C student also. Not from lack of skills but from having too much fun. Then, in high school, I settled down and even took college courses. In college, I was an A student.

Now for the part that will seem hurtful... From the errors in your post, you need the extra lessons. As a language arts instructor, I know that you can do much better than that.

It takes just as much effort to get a C as it does to get an A. You just have to learn how to study. Once you learn that, you will get an A report card.

Don't ever settle for your second best, you will only cheat yourself. Good luck and please know that you can still have your free time and fun when you become that A student.

Family, society and ultimately the whole of mankind is treated by Islam on an ethical basis. Differentiation in sex is neither a credit nor a drawback for the sexes. Therefore, when we talk about status of woman in Islam it should not lead us to think that Islam has no specific guidelines, limitations, responsibilities and obligations for men. What makes one valuable and respectable in the eyes of Allah, the Creator of mankind and the universe, is neither one's prosperity, position, intelligence, physical strength nor beauty, but only one's Allah-consciousness and awareness (taqwa). However, since in the Western culture and in cultures influenced by it, there exists a disparity between men and women there is more need for stating Islam's position on important issues in a clear way.

I. INTRODUCTION

The status of women in society is neither a new issue nor is it a fully settled one.

The position of Islam on this issue has been among the subjects presented to the Western reader with the least objectivity.

This paper is intended to provide a brief and authentic exposition of what Islam stands for in this regard. The teachings of Islam are based essentially on the Qur'an (God's revelation) and Hadeeth (elaboration by Prophet Muhammad).

The Qur'an and the Hadeeth, properly and unbiasedly understood, provide the basic source of authentication for any position or view which is attributed to Islam.

The paper starts with a brief survey of the status of women in the pre-Islamic era. It then focuses on these major questions: What is the position of Islam regarding the status of woman in society? How similar or different is that position from "the spirit of the time," which was dominant when Islam was revealed? How would this compare with the "rights" which were finally gained by woman in recent decades?

II. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES

One major objective of this paper is to provide a fair evaluation of what Islam contributed (or failed to contribute) toward the restoration of woman's dignity and rights. In order to achieve this objective, it may be useful to review briefly how women were treated in general in previous civilizations and religions, especially those which preceded Islam (Pre-610 C.E.). Part of the information provided here, however, describes the status of woman as late as the nineteenth century, more than twelve centuries after Islam.

Women in Ancient Civilization

Describing the status of the Indian woman, Encyclopedia Britannica states:

In India, subjection was a cardinal principle. Day and night must women be held by their protectors in a state of dependence says Manu. The rule of inheritance was agnatic, that is descent traced through males to the exclusion of females.

In Hindu scriptures, the description of a good wife is as follows: "a woman whose mind, speech and body are kept in subjection, acquires high renown in this world, and, in the next, the same abode with her husband."

In Athens, women were not better off than either the Indian or the Roman women.

"Athenian women were always minors, subject to some male - to their father, to their brother, or to some of their male kin.

Her consent in marriage was not generally thought to be necessary and "she was obliged to submit to the wishes of her parents, and receive from them her husband and her lord, even though he were stranger to her."

A Roman wife was described by an historian as: "a babe, a minor, a ward, a person incapable of doing or acting anything according to her own individual taste, a person continually under the tutelage and guardianship of her husband."

In the Encyclopedia Britannica, we find a summary of the legal status of women in the Roman civilization:

In Roman Law a woman was even in historic times completely dependent. If married she and her property passed into the power of her husband . . . the wife was the purchased property of her husband, and like a slave acquired only for his benefit. A woman could not exercise any civil or public office . could not be a witness, surety, tutor, or curator; she could not adopt or be adopted, or make will or contract. Among the Scandinavian races women were:

under perpetual tutelage, whether married or unmarried. As late as the Code of Christian V, at the end of the 17th Century, it was enacted that if a woman married without the consent of her tutor he might have, if he wished, administration and usufruct of her goods during her life.

According to the English Common Law:

...all real property which a wife held at the time of a marriage became a possession of her husband. He was entitled to the rent from the land and to any profit which might be made from operating the estate during the joint life of the spouses. As time passed, the English courts devised means to forbid a husband's transferring real property without the consent of his wife, but he still retained the right to manage it and to receive the money which it produced. As to a wife's personal property, the husband's power was complete. He had the right to spend it as he saw fit.

Only by the late nineteenth Century did the situation start to improve. "By a series of acts starting with the Married women's Property Act in 1870, amended in 1882 and 1887, married women achieved the right to own property and to enter contracts on a par with spinsters, widows, and divorcees." As late as the Nineteenth Century an authority in ancient law, Sir Henry Maine, wrote: "No society which preserves any tincture of Christian institutions is likely to restore to married women the personal liberty conferred on them by the Middle Roman Law."

In his essay The Subjection of Women, John Stuart Mill wrote:

We are continually told that civilization and Christianity have restored to the woman her just rights. Meanwhile the wife is the actual bondservant of her husband; no less so, as far as the legal obligation goes, than slaves commonly so called.

Before moving on to the Qur'anic decrees concerning the status of woman, a few Biblical decrees may shed more light on the subject, thus providing a better basis for an impartial evaluation. In the Mosaic Law, the wife was betrothed. Explaining this concept, the Encyclopedia Biblica states: "To betroth a wife to oneself meant simply to acquire possession of her by payment of the purchase money; the betrothed is a girl for whom the purchase money has been paid." From the legal point of view, the consent of the girl was not necessary for the validation of her marriage. "The girl's consent is unnecessary and the need for it is nowhere suggested in the Law."

As to the right of divorce, we read in the Encyclopedia Biblica: "The woman being man's property, his right to divorce her follows as a matter of course." The right to divorce was held only by man. "In the Mosaic Law divorce was a privilege of the husband only .... "

The position of the Christian Church until recent centuries seems to have been influenced by both the Mosaic Law and by the streams of thought that were dominant in its contemporary cultures. In their book, Marriage East and West, David and Vera Mace wrote:

Let no one suppose, either, that our Christian heritage is free of such slighting judgments. It would be hard to find anywhere a collection of more degrading references to the female sex than the early Church Fathers provide. Lecky, the famous historian, speaks of (these fierce incentives which form so conspicuous and so grotesque a portion of the writing of the Fathers . . . woman was represented as the door of hell, as the mother of all human ills. She should be ashamed at the very thought that she is a woman. She should live in continual penance on account of the curses she has brought upon the world. She should be ashamed of her dress, for it is the memorial of her fall. She should be especially ashamed of her beauty, for it is the most potent instrument of the devil). One of the most scathing of these attacks on woman is that of Tertullian: Do you know that you are each an Eve? The sentence of God on this sex of yours lives in this age: the guilt must of necessity live too. You are the devil's gateway: you are the unsealer of that forbidden tree; you are the first deserters of the divine law; you are she who persuades him whom the devil was not valiant enough to attack. You destroyed so easily God's image, man. On account of your desert - that is death - even the Sop of God had to die). Not only did the church affirm the inferior status of woman, it deprived her of legal rights she had previously enjoyed.

III. WOMAN IN ISLAM

In the midst of the darkness that engulfed the world, the divine revelation echoed in the wide desert of Arabia with a fresh, noble, and universal message to humanity: "O Mankind, keep your duty to your Lord who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate (of same kind) and from them twain has spread a multitude of men and women" (Qur'an 4: 1).

A scholar who pondered about this verse states: "It is believed that there is no text, old or new, that deals with the humanity of the woman from all aspects with such amazing brevity, eloquence, depth, and originality as this divine decree."

Stressing this noble and natural conception, them Qur'an states:

He (God) it is who did create you from a single soul and therefrom did create his mate, that he might dwell with her (in love)...(Qur'an 7:189)

The Creator of heavens and earth: He has made for you pairs from among yourselves ...Qur'an 42:1 1

And Allah has given you mates of your own nature, and has given you from your mates, children and grandchildren, and has made provision of good things for you. Is it then in vanity that they believe and in the grace of God that they disbelieve? Qur'an 16:72

The rest of this paper outlines the position of Islam regarding the status of woman in society from its various aspects - spiritually, socially, economically and politically.

1. The Spiritual Aspect

The Qur'an provides clear-cut evidence that woman iscompletely equated with man in the sight of God interms of her rights and responsibilities. The Qur'an states:

"Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds" (Qur'an 74:38). It also states:

...So their Lord accepted their prayers, (saying): I will not suffer to be lost the work of any of you whether male or female. You proceed one from another ...(Qur'an 3: 195).

Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily to him will We give a new life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the their actions. (Qur'an 16:97, see also 4:124).

Woman according to the Qur'an is not blamed for Adam's first mistake. Both were jointly wrong in their disobedience to God, both repented, and both were forgiven. (Qur'an 2:36, 7:20 - 24). In one verse in fact (20:121), Adam specifically, was blamed.

In terms of religious obligations, such as the Daily Prayers, Fasting, Poor-due, and Pilgrimage, woman is no different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. For example, the woman is exempted from the daily prayers and from fasting during her menstrual periods and forty days after childbirth. She is also exempted from fasting during her pregnancy and when she is nursing her baby if there is any threat to her health or her baby's. If the missed fasting is obligatory (during the month of Ramadan), she can make up for the missed days whenever she can. She does not have to make up for the prayers missed for any of the above reasons. Although women can and did go into the mosque during the days of the prophet and thereafter attendance et the Friday congregational prayers is optional for them while it is mandatory for men (on Friday).

This is clearly a tender touch of the Islamic teachings for they are considerate of the fact that a woman may be nursing her baby or caring for him, and thus may be unable to go out to the mosque at the time of the prayers. They also take into account the physiological and psychological changes associated with her natural female functions.

2. The Social Aspect

a) As a child and an adolescent

Despite the social acceptance of female infanticide among some Arabian tribes, the Qur'an forbade this custom, and considered it a crime like any other murder.

"And when the female (infant) buried alive - is questioned, for what crime she was killed." (Qur'an 81:8-9).

Criticizing the attitudes of such parents who reject their female children, the Qur'an states:

When news is brought to one of them, of (the Birth of) a female (child), his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on (sufferance) and contempt, or bury her in the dust? Ah! What an evil (choice) they decide on? (Qur'an 16: 58-59).

Far from saving the girl's life so that she may later suffer injustice and inequality, Islam requires kind and just treatment for her. Among the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.) in this regard are the following:

Whosoever has a daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favor his son over her, God will enter him into Paradise. (Ibn Hanbal, No. 1957).

Whosoever supports two daughters till they mature, he and I will come in the day of judgment as this (and he pointed with his two fingers held together).

A similar Hadeeth deals in like manner with one who supports two sisters. (Ibn-Hanbal, No. 2104).

The right of females to seek knowledge is not different from that of males. Prophet Muhammad (P.) said:

"Seeking knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim". (AlBayhaqi). Muslim as used here including both males and females.

b) As a wife:

The Qur'an clearly indicates that marriage is sharing between the two halves of the society, and that its objectives, beside perpetuating human life, are emotional well-being and spiritual harmony. Its bases are love and mercy.

Among the most impressive verses in the Qur'an about marriage is the following.

"And among His signs is this: That He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest, peace of mind in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo, herein indeed are signs for people who reflect." (Qur'an 30:2 1).

According to Islamic Law, women cannot be forced to marry anyone without their consent.

Ibn Abbas reported that a girl came to the Messenger of God, Muhammad (P.), and she reported that her father had forced her to marry without her consent. The Messenger of God gave her the choice . . . (between accepting the marriage or invalidating it). (Ibn Hanbal No. 2469). In another version, the girl said: "Actually I accept this marriage but I wanted to let women know that parents have no right (to force a husband on them)" (Ibn Maja, No. 1873).

Besides all other provisions for her protection at the time of marriage, it was specifically decreed that woman has the full right to her Mahr, a marriage gift, which is presented to her by her husband and is included in the nuptial contract, and that such ownership does not transfer to her father or husband. The concept of Mahr in Islam is neither an actual or symbolic price for the woman, as was the case in certain cultures, but rather it is a gift symbolizing love and affection.

The rules for married life in Islam are clear and in harmony with upright human nature. In consideration of the physiological and psychological make-up of man and woman, both have equal rights and claims on one another, except for one responsibility, that of leadership. This is a matter which is natural in any collective life and which is consistent with the nature of man.

The Qur'an thus states:

"And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them, and men are a degree above them." (Qur'an 2:228).

Such degree is Quiwama (maintenance and protection). This refers to that natural difference between the sexes which entitles the weaker sex to protection. It implies no superiority or advantage before the law. Yet, man's role of leadership in relation to his family does not mean the husband's dictatorship over his wife. Islam emphasizes the importance of taking counsel and mutual agreement in family decisions. The Qur'an gives us an example:

"...If they (husband wife) desire to wean the child by mutual consent and (after) consultation, there is no blame on them..." (Qur'an 2: 233).

Over and above her basic rights as a wife comes the right which is emphasized by the Qur'an and is strongly recommended by the Prophet (P); kind treatment and companionship.

The Qur'an states:

"...But consort with them in kindness, for if you hate them it may happen that you hate a thing wherein God has placed much good." (Qur'an 4: l9).

Prophet Muhammad. (P) said:

The best of you is the best to his family and I am the best among you to my family.

The most perfect believers are the best in conduct and best of you are those who are best to their wives. (Ibn-Hanbal, No. 7396)

Behold, many women came to Muhammad's wives complaining against their husbands (because they beat them) - - those (husbands) are not the best of you.

As the woman's right to decide about her marriage is recognized, so also her right to seek an end for an unsuccessful marriage is recognized. To provide for the stability of the family, however, and in order to protect it from hasty decisions under temporary emotional stress, certain steps and waiting periods should be observed by men and women seeking divorce. Considering the relatively more emotional nature of women, a good reason for asking for divorce should be brought before the judge. Like the man, however, the woman can divorce her husband with out resorting to the court, if the nuptial contract allows that.

More specifically, some aspects of Islamic Law concerning marriage and divorce are interesting and are worthy of separate treatment.

When the continuation of the marriage relationship is impossible for any reason, men are still taught to seek a gracious end for it.

The Qur'an states about such cases:

When you divorce women, and they reach their prescribed term, then retain them in kindness and retain them not for injury so that you transgress (the limits). (Qur'an 2:231). (See also Qur'an 2:229 and 33:49).

c) As a mother:

Islam considered kindness to parents next to the worship of God.

"And we have enjoined upon man (to be good) to his parents: His mother bears him in weakness upon weakness..." (Qur'an 31:14) (See also Qur'an 46:15, 29:8).

Moreover, the Qur'an has a special recommendation for the good treatment of mothers:

"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none save Him, and that you be kind to your parents. . ." (Qur'an 17:23).

A man came to Prophet Muhammad (P) asking:

O Messenger of God, who among the people is the most worthy of my good company? The Prophet (P) said, Your mother. The man said then who else: The Prophet (P) said, Your mother. The man asked, Then who else? Only then did the Prophet (P) say, Your father. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

A famous saying of The Prophet is "Paradise is at the feet of mothers." (In Al'Nisa'I, Ibn Majah, Ahmad).

"It is the generous (in character) who is good to women, and it is the wicked who insults them."

3. The Economic Aspect

Islam decreed a right of which woman was deprived both before Islam and after it (even as late as this century), the right of independent ownership. According to Islamic Law, woman's right to her money, real estate, or other properties is fully acknowledged. This right undergoes no change whether she is single or married. She retains her full rights to buy, sell, mortgage or lease any or all her properties. It is nowhere suggested in the Law that a woman is a minor simply because she is a female. It is also noteworthy that such right applies to her properties before marriage as well as to whatever she acquires thereafter.

With regard to the woman's right to seek employment it should be stated first that Islam regards her role in society as a mother and a wife as the most sacred and essential one. Neither maids nor baby-sitters can possibly take the mother's place as the educator of an upright, complex free, and carefully-reared children. Such a noble and vital role, which largely shapes the future of nations, cannot be regarded as "idleness".

However, there is no decree in Islam which forbids woman from seeking employment whenever there is a necessity for it, especially in positions which fit her nature and in which society needs her most. Examples of these professions are nursing, teaching (especially for children), and medicine. Moreover, there is no restriction on benefiting from woman's exceptional talent in any field. Even for the position of a judge, where there may be a tendency to doubt the woman's fitness for the post due to her more emotional nature, we find early Muslim scholars such as Abu-Hanifa and Al-Tabary holding there is nothing wrong with it. In addition, Islam restored to woman the right of inheritance, after she herself was an object of inheritance in some cultures. Her share is completely hers and no one can make any claim on it, including her father and her husband.

"Unto men (of the family) belongs a share of that which Parents and near kindred leave, and unto women a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, whether it be a little or much - a determinate share." ((Qur'an 4:7).

Her share in most cases is one-half the man's share, with no implication that she is worth half a man! It would seem grossly inconsistent after the overwhelming evidence of woman's equitable treatment in Islam, which was discussed in the preceding pages, to make such an inference. This variation in inheritance rights is only consistent with the variations in financial responsibilities of man and woman according to the Islamic Law. Man in Islam is fully responsible for the maintenance of his wife, his children, and in some cases of his needy relatives, especially the females. This responsibility is neither waived nor reduced because of his wife's wealth or because of her access to any personal income gained from work, rent, profit, or any other legal means.

Woman, on the other hand, is far more secure financially and is far less burdened with any claims on her possessions. Her possessions before marriage do not transfer to her husband and she even keeps her maiden name. She has no obligation to spend on her family out of such properties or out of her income after marriage. She is entitled to the "Mahr" which she takes from her husband at the time of marriage. If she is divorced, she may get an alimony from her ex-husband.

An examination of the inheritance law within the overall framework of the Islamic Law reveals not only justice but also an abundance of compassion for woman.

4. The Political Aspect

Any fair investigation of the teachings of Islam o~ into the history of the Islamic civilization will surely find a clear evidence of woman's equality with man in what we call today "political rights".

This includes the right of election as well as the nomination to political offices. It also includes woman's right to participate in public affairs. Both in the Qur'an and in Islamic history we find examples of women who participated in serious discussions and argued even with the Prophet (P) himself, (see Qur'an 58: 14 and 60: 10-12).

During the Caliphate of Omar Ibn al-Khattab, a woman argued with him in the mosque, proved her point, and caused him to declare in the presence of people: "A woman is right and Omar is wrong."

Although not mentioned in the Qur'an, one Hadeeth of the Prophet is interpreted to make woman ineligible for the position of head of state. The Hadeeth referred to is roughly translated: "A people will not prosper if they let a woman be their leader." This limitation, however, has nothing to do with the dignity of woman or with her rights. It is rather, related to the natural differences in the biological and psychological make-up of men and women.

According to Islam, the head of the state is no mere figurehead. He leads people in the prayers, especially on Fridays and festivities; he is continuously engaged in the process of decision-making pertaining to the security and well-being of his people. This demanding position, or any similar one, such as the Commander of the Army, is generally inconsistent with the physiological and psychological make-up of woman in general. It is a medical fact that during their monthly periods and during their pregnancies, women undergo various physiological and psychological changes. Such changes may occur during an emergency situation, thus affecting her decision, without considering the excessive strain which is produced. Moreover, some decisions require a maximum of rationality and a minimum of emotionality - a requirement which does not coincide with the instinctive nature of women.

Even in modern times, and in the most developed countries, it is rare to find a woman in the position of a head of state acting as more than a figurehead, a woman commander of the armed services, or even a proportionate number of women representatives in parliaments, or similar bodies. One can not possibly ascribe this to backwardness of various nations or to any constitutional limitation on woman's right to be in such a position as a head of state or as a member of the parliament. It is more logical to explain the present situation in terms of the natural and indisputable differences between man and woman, a difference which does not imply any "supremacy" of one over the other. The difference implies rather the "complementary" roles of both the sexes in life.

IV. CONCLUSION

The first part of this paper deals briefly with the position of various religions and cultures on the issue under investigation. Part of this exposition extends to cover the general trend as late as the nineteenth century, nearly 1300 years after the Qur'an set forth the Islamic teachings.

In the second part of the paper, the status of women in Islam is briefly discussed. Emphasis in this part is placed on the original and authentic sources of Islam. This represents the standard according to which degree of adherence of Muslims can be judged. It is also a fact that during the downward cycle of Islamic Civilization, such teachings were not strictly adhered to by many people who profess to be Muslims.

Such deviations were unfairly exaggerated by some writers, and the worst of this, were superficially taken to represent the teachings of "Islam" to the Western reader without taking the trouble to make any original and unbiased study of the authentic sources of these teachings.

Even with such deviations three facts are worth mentioning:

1. The history of Muslims is rich with women of great achievements in all walks of life from as early as the seventh century (B.C.)

2. It is impossible for anyone to justify any mistreatment of woman by any decree of rule embodied in the Islamic Law, nor could anyone dare to cancel, reduce, or distort the clear-cut legal rights of women given in Islamic Law.

3. Throughout history, the reputation, chastity and maternal role of Muslim women were objects of admiration by impartial observers.

It is also worthwhile to state that the status which women reached during the present era was not achieved due to the kindness of men or due to natural progress. It was rather achieved through a long struggle and sacrifice on woman's part and only when society needed her contribution and work, more especial!; during the two world wars, and due to the escalation of technological change.

In the case of Islam such compassionate and dignified status was decreed, not because it reflects the environment of the seventh century, nor under the threat or pressure of women and their organizations, but rather because of its intrinsic truthfulness.

If this indicates anything, it would demonstrate the divine origin of the Qur'an and the truthfulness of the message of Islam, which, unlike human philosophies and ideologies, was far from proceeding from its human environment, a message which established such humane principles as neither grew obsolete during the course of time and after these many centuries, nor can become obsolete in the future. After all, this is the message of the All-Wise and all-knowing God whose wisdom and knowledge are far beyond the ultimate in human thought and progress.

if i'm 18, highschool graguated, some skills are: art and design, painting, martial arts, badminton, math tutor.

it's impossible for me to work in U.S b/c I'm not gonna stay here, but im still a citizen of U.S.

i dont think i can work in other countries, either. b/c i only plan to stay in each for a few month.

There are alot of companies out there that you can work for online. One of the best options would be a direct sales company and just do your sales via the internet. Most companies do not charge you very much for an online shopping page. Some top websites I would recommend to check out for direct sales would be internetbasedmoms.com , homepartyplannetwork.com , wahmoms.com . There are alot of men and women that make 6 figures a year doing this. On one of those sites, they also have telecommute information.

One other thing I might recommend is this: I know a girl who traveled the world and did most of it for free by getting a short term tourism job at a camp where she would go. She traveled to offshore islands near France and her room and board were covered from working at a camp there. Then, on her offtime, she explored. She would work as a tourist, which from what she described is a legal work status in alot of countries.

Reply:MANY countries have "working holiday" programs...where you are granted a temporary work visa for 3 or 4 months so you can work in that country. There are also private comanies that help you organize you travels using working holidays in different countries. There are MANY websites that cover this. Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries have these programs. Just do a web search and enter"working holidays" and you will have many sites to read. Hope it works out weell for you.
Reply:If I were you I would contact some publishers ....newspapers....tell them that you are travelling around the world and whether they would be interested in purchasing your story/stories. You could try selling either individual stories about specific places, or you could pitch a series of stories about your experiences as a young american traveling the world and how it is changing your perspective etc. You might not be able to make a living exactly, but you could certainly subsidise your trip that way...you'll just need a laptop and an internet connection. Go to the bookstore and look for a book called the Writer's Market, they list hundreds of publications and also give you an example of how to submit to the various publications. And you don't have to limit yourself to just one publication either...you could write bunches with different angles as long as it's not exactly the same story more than once. You could even cover current fashions or food or what the current climate is for american travelers in that particular country. Also, if you know where you're going in advance, you could approach the local publications too...so you could try a UK paper or magazine and pitch a story about a young american's first impressions of the UK (or whereever) in the current world climate ....just for example....or even just some funny story about how hard it is to get used to people driving on the wrong side etc. You could even do a Where in the World is....for your local media.

I also know that people sometimes find job working under the table at restaurants around the world...it's a little more risky, I'd say, but it's worked for some. Good luck!

Reply:You can't, really, at least not legally. You could apply for work visas for other countries, but getting a job in another country would be more difficult than getting a job in the U.S.A. I'm not sure why it's "impossible" for you to get a job here, but if it's impossible for you to find work in the U.S., you probably won't find very much work elsewhere, especially if you only stay in an area for a few months at a time. Companies don't usually like to hire people, in general, that aren't going to stick around, although you could probably find migrant/seasonal work.

My intended major is elem ed so I've decided to apply at an elementary school, (for the experience and the references) and I was wondering, what are the pros and cons of working at a school? specifically elementary? I'm going to be a tutor/sub-aid/esl helper anyhow. I'm asking this b/c being in college I've worked in restauarants for awhile now, and I know how that can be..with customer service. I always thought a school would be so much better, working with children in a classroom in all, but for some reason, i got a bad impression of the elementary school and noticed naturally a lot of the faculty are "women" and they're all really....competatvie? sassy? fake? I can't really describe it..but somehow..very unfriendly...just give me some pointers, I wanna make this job something fun, and really educational, to see if I really would enjoy the education field. thank you.

and i need to get mental help. she says she is going to send me to live with my grandparents (right now i would rather live with them than with her) and she says this all because i want to drop back to algebra 1/2 because im failing algebra 1. i emailed my teacher asking him what he thought about it and he said it would be a good idea. when i told her she grounded me and told me i needed to go live with my grandparents and go to a psychiatrist. i dont think i need to go to a psychiatrist (to me it doesnt seem like im crazy because i want to move down in math) but i would much rather go live with my grandparents than stay with her.

I can't understand the premise for being grounded just because you emailed your teacher. It seems a bit much to me. Your mother sounds verbally abusive. I can't imagine what purpose such a tight rein would serve or why she just can't drop it. Flunking out of algebra is not a premise for mental illness. If she wants so much to be rid of you, it does seem to me you would be better off anywhere than right under her foot where she can continue to badger and browbeat you.

It sounds to me like you have a hard time sitting still and focusing on the task at hand. Maybe if your mother would shut her big mouth and leave you alone, it might help but she's so full of herself she can't see how distracting her behavior is and how much it is upsetting you. My heart goes out to you. I sympathize. (Been there, done that.)

I think you have no problems other than this perpetual preoccupation with defending yourself for not measuring up to your mother's standards. You're always experiencing some anxiety about not measuring up. It puts undo pressure on you just to understand the material, much less pass a test. You're always measuring yourself according to someone else's criteria. You seem to me to be smart, clever and you seem to have a good grasp of your limitations. Good for you. Now stop dwelling on the negative. Just like your mother obsesses and argues with you (like it's going to change anything), you do the same thing. What the f*** is her problem?

This is called a kind of bondage. You seem to be enslaved to her low impression of herself and everything is someone else's fault. It's too narcissistic to serve any worthwhile purpose. It is a bad habit, nothing more. Whatever is actually going on there, there is a hidden agenda. We may never know why she continues with it. You are not the problem.

You are not inadequate. You are just you. It's about time someone realized that. They all should just accept you as you are, and if they can't do that, the h*** with them. OK? Stop running to your mother to tell her about every little thing you do. You know she's going to go ballistic. All you can do is keep your distance and not let it become another outburst. You are not a baby. You do not need to be patronized for your every living, waking, breathing moment. Stop with the disparaging comments all ready.

You have built a life full of expectations that are abusive and inappropriate. You need to get away from there. You react badly to everything she does. That's why she does it. If you could stop reacting and learn to stop pushing her buttons she would have to change. If you don't play the game anymore, it won't be any fun to continue to bad mouth you. Stop reacting and don't give her the chance to insult you. I don't care what it is. It has no goal and no worthwhile purpose other than playing this game with you. You are not her whipping boy.

Get a therapist and some antidepressants. You don't deserve that. You are not a victim. Learn to stop playing her game. Learn to stop expecting her to insult you again. You are just fine as you are. She'll just have to learn to live with that.

Teens are in enough stressful situations without being told they are crazy and should move away. It may be best for you to change your environment. I am sorry... Hey, I have pretty awful classmates, not that I mind b/c I don't talk to them.

But I once told my tutor that she's an amazing teacher and since then they hate me even more (still dont care..)

To my tutor, she's helped me to get through a lot and I really really love her loads, but I'm going to America next year, so I wanted to know if I should give her like flowers or smth before I leave?? ok so im tutoring this kid in like 6th grade. hes a boy and he's like 12 or something. so he needs like help in math or something. so today i slept in so i was rushing to get to the school and i take shower in the mornings. and apparently, i forgot to wear my bra. but i didnt notice. (stupid me) anyhow i have pretty big boobs like a C cup or something. so i think he noticed i wasnt wearing a bra, so he dropped his pencil. at that time i didnt notice that this was on purpose. so then i said "ill pick that up for you" and he just smiled. so i bent over and i sense his eyes on me. i just ignore it though, thinking its just my eyes. then, at the end of the "tutoring time," he said "bye ms. J. oh, and by the way, you have really nice boobs."

I had a teacher who was really nice, but she went somewhere without telling us (about 7 students in the class) and left us with a mean hard teacher. She's meaner to me because I went to gr.8 review summer math course and she was my teacher THAT time, too. When I get something wrong, she yells at me in front of everyone, making them stare. I really hate my math class, and Saturday is the only day of math8....well theres one in the morning with a nice teacher but my mom is not a morning person. I think that my tutor center isn't even helping me (i've been in it for 4 years and all I got in school for math is Bs and C+s). A lot of my friends who used to go to the tutor quit because it wasn't working for them, but I have a cousin who made it to UBC, because her "secret" is "go to that tutor center, it rocks!" so here I am, and my mom said, "If she recommends it, then it must be good." I even tried skipping one class before, but my guilt stopped me. What do I do to survive the class 2mr? ):

I would just say to be as attentive as possible and not give the teacher any reason to want to lash out at you in front of the class. As a teacher myself, I don't understand why some other teachers feels it is necessary to treat students in this way, but if you still feel uncomfortable I would suggest that you speak to someone in a higher position at the school or have a chat with the teacher yourself. A New Mouse

Today I bought a new mouse

This mouse now has a house

It sits on a happy face

It's quite the perfect place

My mouse doesn't walk around

I think it is sweet and happy. It would go well in a book for children, esp., who are learning computer skills to break up the doldrums of all the dry computerese and other lingo.

One correction: Third line from bottom "it's" should not have apostrophe in the possessive form, just "its" not "it is", that's how I remember that rule.

My best friend lives with her grandparents, and they're trating her like crap. Her grandma out of the blue just decided that her and her boyfriend need to break up, so she called him up and did, took away her birthday puppy, hamster, and cat. She loves her animals an she didnt do anything wrong. They said it was because she got a C in algebra, but they wont let her get a tutor. Today her grandma pulled her by the hair and was hurting her because she didnt jump right in. I wanted to run over and save her, but what can I do, im just a kid. I try to comfort her at school, but I want to do more. What can I do?

I believe you are doing what you can by being her friend,allowing her to vent,and supporting her emotionally.If there is suspected family violence and proof physically,the next step is to go to your school counselor and share what is going on.I'm not sure of how old either of you are, so I'm not sure why her grandparents are deciding the fate of her love life,but suspect that it is for her well being at the time.The only thing you can do is to let your friend know you are always there for her,let her know her secrets and what is shared between you is safe with you always.Never betray her confidence to you unless her life is at risk.

OK i study a lot, go to tutoring but i am still getting C's! i work hard but i struggle in every class! I have like a C average the only classes i don't have C's in is P.E and my electives! Going to a four year is out the window! so how can I get more intelligent

Yes, you work hard but do you play hard also? Riding the bike in the park, playing badminton with your friends etc is vital so you wont stress yourself too much and keep your body active and healthy.

More tips:

i. manage your time well - studying in the mornings is advisable as your mind is keen to focus as it's still "fresh"

ii. short notes - they are a GREAT way to study, because it only contains what you wanna know and it's short. it's advisable to make notes interesting and colourful. using yellow paper is good too because it helps you to concentrate

iii. watch your food intake - don't take food that contains a lot of colouring and preservatives of the sort..

iv. dont study in the evenings - because your body and mind is tired due to daily routines. this is the best time to relax watching cartoons, take a ride on the bike etc.

v. keep your relationship with your parents, teachers %26amp; friends close - blessing is important too.

And-- be confident, believe that you could do it! :DD

Reply:This doesn't make sense. The setup file referenced is in the windows directory on your C: drive. That is the last place it should be. It also says the "destination" file is write protected, which could mean the application has been previously installed.

First, remove any files that may have been installed by the setup program. Check in the Add/Remove Programs area to see if the program is listed as already installed and uninstall it if possible.

Next, if this installation is on a CD, run the setup program from the CD. OR, if you downloaded this program, put the downloaded files in a new folder, like C:/temp, and run the install from there.

That should allow you to install the program correctly.

I am a senior in college this year and I am having a major problem in one of my classes. This is the last course that is required for me to graduate in May of 2008 and if I don't pass I will not graduate because the class is only offered in the fall. I am trying my best, I hired a tutor(but had to discontinue use of him b/c i could not afford it), I go to EVERY lecture and study session and I just can't seem to get it. It is Thermodynamic Chemistry and I have put all I have into this course and I am not getting the desired results. I have gone to see my professor numerous times and he just keeps telling me to solve problems and to make sure I understand how they are solved, well, I have done the problems in my book and I even got two more books from the library but it is not helping. I just don't understand the information in this class. How can I convince my professor to pass me because I really am trying my best. Any suggestions?Success stories?Legitimate, well thought answers please

Reply:For every hour you spend in class, study outside class for two hours. And ONLY two hours per hour. After those study hours each day, WORK to earn and save money enough to pay a tutor to help you during cram week.
Reply:it sounds like you are doing a good job so far of trying to stay on track in that class. sometimes, in my experience, professors are jerks through the entire semester so that you think you are failing, but then at the end they decide to curve all the grades way up. unless the class is on a fixed scale.

sometimes just getting with friends in study groups helps me, b/c it's like free tutoring.

have you gone to see your professor with specific questions? instead of going to him and saying "how can i study better?", ask him how to solve specific problems in your book, or ask him to go over a problem again that he went over in your lecture.
Reply:Honestly, you can't just convince him, unless he is a pushover idiot. If he passes you and you have not earned the grade, then he is compromising the integrity of the course and the school. If he is not tenured, he can lose his job that way. If he IS tenured, he can be bypassed for raises or other special honors. All you can do is work your butt off and hope for the best. Your worst case scenario is NOT that bad: you might have to graduate later. That's it. It is simply not as big a deal as you think it is. Do your best, and if you pass, then great. If not, re-take it. My sister sucked at algebra for years, retook it, and eventually it stuck. That is what I recommend. Anything else is going to just be shooting you in the foot. If you get him to pass you and don't understand the concepts, then it will come back to haunt you when you try to make a career of this. I presume you need to know this, or it wouldn't be required. Good luck!
Reply:give up the idea of getting the prof to pass you. it's unethical to give you a grade different than what you earned. i mean really, do you want a heart doctor to be passed on surgery class because she's really trying her best? no! because she's going to be operating on your heart. consider dropping it if you can. consider taking it online from another university and transferring it. consider forming a study group to try to learn from others. start spending a lot of time working problems that have been worked in class or the book. so you can see exactly what you need to do. spend more time on working problems (that you know the process/answer for) before you try some problems on your own. keep reading the book until you memorize it. become obsessed with understanding this material. no partying, no movies, no tv, just spend all your time obsessed with 'getting' this material.

then start working the problems from class or the book with different numbers. get busy. stop wanting your teacher to cheat. if i was a teacher (and i have taught technical subjects at university level) and i sensed you wanted a grade you didn't earn i would be extra hard on you.
Reply:I know this is not what you want to hear . . .but you have created a block on the class subject and now that is the problem. You have set yourself up not to pass and, it sounds like you skirted the class until near the end and now you are trying to catch up.

That's bad. The only hope for you is to get off the Internet now, stop everything and study your a%26amp;%26amp; off and say a little prayer it works. Make sure you rest good before the test. There's no other way: cram, cram and pass.

Reply:All applied chemistry courses require vigorous study and memorization. Don't just do your homework. You actually have to be interested in it. Make it a hobby of yours. Flash cards help and you should also try to see if anyone else in your class is having the same difficulties. You could also find other students who may be able to explain it better than the professor. Start a "thermochem'' study group. Keep your chin up. If the instructor sees that you really are trying your best, chances are, he won't fail you.

I don't mean to be insulting, but perhaps this material is simply not within your capability to understand. Not everyone can pass every course.

Alternatively, perhaps you could take the course with a different instructor. It may be that you can do better if the material were taught to you in a different way.

and she talked to our guidance councelor about it

to see what could be done about the class. In her situation,

she dropped the class before the new quarter started.

I'm not sure if that is possible in your situation because

it is required, but maybe you could take another science

credit instead of that specific class.

a guidance councelor or let your parents know

what is going on. Maybe they can help somehow.

im not failing or anything but slowly my grades are declining from a's to c's ( test grades that is ) i have a good tutor and stay after school for help. i also study hard before the test but the past 2 tests i got c's. one of the tests i just forgot 1 concept which blew me off because related rates were worth a lot and i forgot the triangle concept but this past test i bombed the mean value theorm because i didnt know what to do when there was no C in the f(c)= part of the equation. i really want an A on the next test how should i prepare??!?! im a junior in high school. also if i pass the ap exam will i have to take this class in college?

You need to do more drill on what homework you are assigned. Drill just means doing 2 or three times the homework you are assigned. What this will do is ingrain it in your memory so you don't forget. Also it increases your speed. Let the dummies have to stop and thing while you are working immediately. Most schools will let give you credit for calculus if you pass an AP exam, but you may not want to. Better to take an easy A in college to boost your cumulative point average than struggle with the harder math course you will have to take.
Reply:It's good that you have a tutor and are getting help after school. During the tests make sure to stay relaxed and if you are having trouble with a problem skip it and them come back to it later, or look for other parts in the test that can help you out. As far as taking the class in college it really depends on what school you go to and what you are majoring in. good luck on your next test!

She is one class away from her associates degree in business. Then she plans to finish at the University of Central Florida. She has taken calculus twice and gotten a D both times. (She needs a C to transfer). I even paid for a tutor this last time but it didn't seem to help. Valencia Community College only offers one calculus class--and that is ALL she needs to pass. She studies so hard and cries a lot. I just want to help her. should we try again? I wondered if there is a good school that doesn't require calculus. Should she try another program? which one? Please help. I hate seeing her suffer like this.

UCF requires Calc? Many business majors just need Stats, not Calc. Can she take Stats instead of Calc and have that count?

Contact both UCF and the transfer counsellor at her university. See if Stats can count instead of Calc for her math requirement. Some students who find calc difficult find stats easier, if only because the math seems more practical.

If she needs calc to transfer as a business major to UCF, consider if the following might work:

- Have her apply to UCF to transfer as a major that doesn't require calc. Something related to business, such as Event Management, Health Information Management, Health Services Admin, Public Adminstration, or Food Service Mgmt. Look into those majors, see if they require calc of transfer students. If not, she should consider making the change.

- Have her major in something that isn't business related at all, and which doesn't require calc. Have her do a co-op or internship in a business related field. When she graduates, she can rely on that co-op to help her get her first full time job in business.

She should do the co-op or internship anyway, actually.

The other day I asked my friend if I could use her address to get into a nearby college. She said "no" b/c I didn't drive an hr to tutor her in math last weekend(microbiology and finals kept me in). well I said OK, then she txt me "selfish". it was really outta nowhere. So in short. I told her that 'what is selfish is to give yr kid up and use the 2000 a month to buy designer handbags, while yr other kid needs basic living items.' Jacob, a tutor isn't the worst thing that can happen. Your report is very interesting because of the wide range of grades. It's hard to answer your question without really talking, but I do some counseling so let me give you some questions to ask yourself.

Why do you do well in art, music, technology, etc? Are there common elements to those classes? Do the teachers give the same types of tests? Do you do hands on projects? Do you like those classes? Is there a lot of reading? How much time to you spend studying for each class?

Then look at the courses you don't do as well in and ask the same questions. Do the teachers give the same types of tests? Do you do hands on projects? Do you like those classes? Is there a lot of reading? How much time to you spend studying for each class?

Now look for patterns in your answers. Everyone learns in different ways. For example, I am a visual learner. Courses with a lot of reading and theory, like economics and history are difficult for me. However, courses like math and computer were easier. Once, I found my pattern, I changed my study habits for my economics and history courses. I started making graphs, flowcharts, pictures, diagrams, etc. of the information in those classes. Now that the information was in a visual form, I was able to retain it better.

Some students learn better by reading. If that is the case, take the pictures, diagrams, charts, etc. Write the information out in long hand and study by reading the paragraphs.

If it is that the teacher gives a lot of information verbally, then try practicing your listening skills. Tape the evening news at night or a documentary. While you watch the program, try taking notes. Then play back the tape. Did you get the high points, would someone else reading yours notes know what the story was about? It can even help to have a friend, older sibling, parent look at the information. With practice, you do get better, I did.

As the number of the pH goes further from 7, the more basic (adjective form of the word base) it is. Your blood is basic and your stomach has acids in it to digest your food. Water is neutral.

I'm not a hard worker, but i intend on getting tutored for this subject.

my gpa is 2.89 (blegh), and I got a C+ in pre-calc both times that i took them (highschool and now, freshman college) I can probably pass with a C, but that would very much worsen my gpa and make the reality of my not getting excepted into the Rutgers Business school more apparent.

I have the option to take it in the summer or get it over with now...

Sounds like you go to Rutgers. If I were you I'd take calc and get tutored at the Learning Resource Center for free. I went into the final for Calc 135 back as a freshman with a lackluster F average. I spent 3 hours a night at the LRC the last two weeks of the semester and kicked arrse on the final. I got a B as my final grade in the class.

I've been seeing this guy for almost 3 months now, but I'm not sure if he's into me or he's just using me. He has a crush on me since I was a freshmen in college. I'm now a sophmore and he's a junior. He's really not my type of guy. He had been asking for my ph number for awhile but I never gave it to him. I'm a math tutor, one day he just showed up for me to tutor him, I was surprised b/c I mean he's a junior why would a junior want a math tutor from a sophmore? so I asked him why and he said he has to be creative and hoping for me to call him back. I thought it was cute, since then we've been talking to get to know each other. We are now talking like a couple calling each other hunny, talking on the phone for hours, texting here and there, hanging out between classes, after classes, at my dorm, but we haven't really hung out on the weekend or at his house. He lives 30 mnts from campus with his parents. At first I thought maybe he didn't want his parents to know me yet because maybe it's too soon too serious, and whenever I ask him to hang out on the weekend he always says he has something to do either hang out w his friends or w his family. Also every Saturday he doesn't answer his phone and never returns any of my ph call. So I have all this questions that I've battling with my own thoughts, and I can't figure out what it is, I really need your help and opinion on this please..

1. Is he into me? I asked him before and he said if he doesn't like talking or seeing me he wouldn't even bother to do anything at all.

If the tutoring is in English, I would suggest you go. If not and your English teacher gave you over a C, thats a disaster.

Reply:You should re-evaluate what school means to you. I'm 56 years old and have worked in construction for the last 30. I *was* young at one time, and also did not like school. Looking back on it, going to school would have been a much better thing to do. I'm smart %26amp; could have done well. Learning can be enjoyable, if you look at it the right (not in a hurry) way. Using your brain rather than your muscles to make a living (which you will have to do at some point) is way way better.

Getting older is like a trip into outer space. You don't know what's in front of you, but others that have already been on that path can see it clearly. There is no way for you, in the place you are now, to appreciate the differences in the quality of life you will have in the future - as an educated person vs. a not-educated person.

Sorry for sounding like an old fart, but that's what I am. I have sore knees, a sore back, rotator cuff injuries, etc etc.

I wish you could see it from my standpoint; you would surely sing a different tune.

I know I could have done better if I had just focused and battled through it even though I didn't like it and didn't want to. Think about why your parents are so fussy about your schooling. They have been there and done that and know just how important it is. They were young once too. Baseball would probably not be my top priority. Think it through.

That's just the thing, it's her education not yours. If she wants to do well she will and if she gets held back that's just how it is. If she does maybe it will help her to realize that she needs to do better.

Reply:First, decide what you really want to do. Do you want to achieve an A in English, or just achieve a pass rather than fail? Understand the teacher's expectations, and gear your results towards meeting those expectations. You will retain what is useful, and that is what will matter once you are finished in school. If you are getting A's in everything else that is awesome, and you are capable of that A in English as well. Good Luck, and never give up.

After hours upon hours upon hours of studying, my Honors general chemistry (year 1) class of my freshman year resulted in no more than a D+. Last semester of chem I got a C. Even after getting a tutor, varying study techniques, and taking to my professor several times, I'm boggled at how an intelligent student can be ruined by a class like this. I'm fully aware of the grades needed to enter medical school, but my heart is set on it.

Any guidance in terms of suggestions or advice for where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Reply:Don't know- What did your Prof have to say? You don't have to take Honors courses- plain Chemistry would do. Are you doing well in the other Sciences?

I don't know what to tell you. A C hurts, a D really kills your GPA. You are going to have to Ace everything from here on to get a good GPA-- They will forgive you for one bad grade- might be the Prof, etc. if all your others are outstanding. Keep trying, don't quit.
Reply:though grades are main importance...u sound like u want to get in to medicine so u should have other proofs to help u out like lots of voluntary work...start now so that when u apply for med school u have alot of experience that u can talk about which proves u want to be in the medical field than just grades...lots of my friends didnt get the best of grades but cause of their years of experience they got offers from medical schools.
Reply:I'm going to be the dissenter here and recommend that you seriously rethink your career options. Medical school isn't for everybody, and if you can't get through general chemistry, what's going to happen with organic chem?

Med school is twice the information in half the time, with no allowance for mistakes. It's brutal.

Maybe you'll be able to pull it together, but you're going to be competing for a med school space with people who cruised through chemistry without batting an eye.

You might want to have a Plan B in your back pocket. I don't mean to b rude, but if you don't have what it takes to succeed in medical school, it's better that you find out now, so that you can have an alternate plan.

Look into nursing - there are a lot of opportunities for advanced practice nursing that may better suit you.

Reply:Honestly just work on improving, but hope is not def. lost YET. You have to take the D+ class again as you cannot even apply to ANY medical school with a D in any math or science classes.

If it makes you feel better I got C+ in both general chem 1 and 2. Freshman year GPA was about a 2.5, I want to say. Each year I kept improving. By the time I was a Jr. I had 4.0 for both semesters. I applied to medical school with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 (and an awesome MCAT I might add), and I am starting this fall! The first question I was asked in the interview was what the heck happened freshman year because my grades were substantially different. I had C's in basic science courses but had A's easily in advanced medical physiology, biochemistry, molecular cell biology, etc.

Don't lose hope but you MUST improve, or hope WILL be lost.

Another tip: Get in good with your teachers and the pre-med or pre-health director at your school. The recommendation letters needed by them are essential. My best friend could not even apply to medical school because she could not get letters of rec.

truthfully (not an opinion - a fact), Pre-med/medical science is the hardest thing on earth.. you need to be able to remember everything you read (every word, every sentence). before i came to college, i was studying day and night - literally.. i spent every breath i breathed studying just to maintain an A %26amp; B average.. i'm serious it's tough but you can't give up. if this is absolutely what you desire to be, then go for it! you may be spending hours and hours studying, but it's definitely worth it in the long run. right now you need to do what i did and focus on ONLY school.. no fun and games. it doesn't seem right but it is. u need to read every page of every book at least twice and get it stuck in your head where when you're asleep you'll dream about school. just hang in there and DON'T give up no matter what! it's not that you're not trying, it's just you're not trying enough- even if you've spent hours and hours of studying.. study hours and hours and hours and hours and MORE HOURS - until ur brain almost explodes!! i promise you're going to do great in life as long as you stick to your plan..

Reply:Well here's the deal. Sometimes you have to take classes moer than once to get a good understanding. Try taking it again...maybe after you've had a few other classes. I had two upper level biology classes that I got D's in the first time around. I took them again the next year and got much better grades. I was actually able to understand it the second time. It doesn't show on your transcript that you took it twice either...just the better of the two grades. Good luck!

Reply:I think this is actually kind of funny. Many of the Atheists that I know, myself included, come from a very religious background. I stopped believing in Religion when I saw how many of the people I grew up with and went to church with were very hypocritical. Just because you may believe in a God, or higher being, does not make you better or more knowledgeable than us. And it goes the other way, just becuase we chose to not go down that path does not mean that we are ignorant fools. To each their own. It's JUST religion. Many atheists come to be atheist by studying the Bible, it is not generally ignorance of the Bible that leads to their position. Ignorance of the Bible, and a refusal to deal with the obvious problems within it is much more a Christian thing than an atheist thing.

so im in Trigonometry and really sruggling in it. Last quarter I got a C-. So, I got a tutor to help me this quarter and I even did worse, I'm just on the edge of a C-. I've always been really good at math but this year I'm struggling in it so much, Its like I understand but when the test comes I dont understand much. I think its the teacher. But neways, next week is finals and my teacher told me that I have to get at least a C to maintain a C and not get a D. This whole semester I've been getting 30-65% on my tests. I dont think theres really a chance. I study plenty before each of the tests and everything. What should I do about this, should I study a lot and then end up getting a D or F, and therefore getting a D+ in this course or just not study cause nothing will help. Uggh please help this is killing me I'm so confused.

I have the same problem in math. I would say from experience, just relax. It sounds just blah, but it works. Plus try not to think of it. I know that is hard to do but it will help. Ask the professor what is going to be on the test. Just go over the problems that you really have a problem with, not the ones that you have a little clue on how to do. that is the best advice that I can give..
Reply:Aside from studying until you puke, you may look for a tutor from outside the school. Assuming you can afford one, or have a friend who will help for free. What one school cannot seem to communicate, another may.

Lately people have been asking me what i want to do with my future. What college i want to go to etc. Everytime they ask my answer is "I don't know yet...". (I'm in 10th grade by the way)

I want to learn Basic Accounting?
As a teacher of accounting and a practicing accountant i would advice to visit some short-term courses, where you could be in a class room, with other students. There is nothing difficult in accounting for which you would need personal training. Basic rules are very simple. In courses you will be a part of some small group of people, whose ideas and mistakes (!) will make you to understand the subject better + when you see something written on board or a good presentation, you understand everything much better.

Accounting is the subject that should be taught within a group, students have higher results in this case.

Reply:This is obviously and exam of some kind that you are taking to be an education aide. If you feel the need to cheat on it, then you have no business in the education field at all. Good grief!

My chemistry tutor told me to find the molecular weights for those, but I don't really understand.

What is molecular weight?
just look in the periodic table of elements thats in your chemistry book and find the symbol and look at the mass. dont forget to start your inegen. the chemicals that end in 'ine' and 'gen' like chlorINE or nitroGEN make molecules that are called diatoms so you have to multiply their periodic table mass x 2.
Reply:Those are atomic symbols for elements with atomic weights. Cl=35.5, F=19, I=127, etc. Some of them occur as diatomic molecules: Cl2=71 F2=38 I2=254, etc. But others do not: K=39 Ca=40 Na=23. Then there are the molecular weights of compounds of these: NaCl=58.5, CaCl2=111, CCl4=154, etc.

Reply:You know, maybe if the courts put away these offenders, they would learn their lesson early in life and then not go on to continue drinking and driving and breaking the law. We have a lot of criminals on the streets because they think they can get away with it. I had the most difficult time reading your rant - I think you're trying to say somebody got easier sentences that wasn't famous?

F*** Paris Hilton. She's not above the law. I live in So Cal, and expect the legal system to protect me from all ******* endangering people like me who have kids in our car and do not wish to be slammed into by some drunk or reckless driver. She had been given basically anything she wanted and it's likely that there were very few boundaries set for her.

When people raised like this get out into the real world, they usually bump their heads against the walls of constraint a few times before they learn that the rules apply to them, as well.

Does anyone remember a few years ago when she was arrested, sent to rehab, etc? She was acting like a "Bad Girl" to the inth degree.

Her behavior was largely due to the fact that she was drinking in night clubs at the age of 9 years, snorting cocaine, and who knows what else.

People who are not blessed with parents who love them enough to teach them right from wrong are to be pitied, not ridiculed. They have no idea of how to love and look after themselves.

Drew Barrymore is no longer practicing self-defeating behaviors, as far as I know.

But when that spotlight catches her breaking the law, she complains. Reply:I don't feel that she's being harrassed because of who she is. She violated her probabtion. She's claiming that she didn't know that her license had been suspended but that's not an excuse. She signed the citation stating that her license was suspended. It was her responsibility to read the citation and she didn't. She relied on second hand information from her publicist who turned out to be wrong. I think it's great that celebrities are finally learning that they can't do whatever they want and get away with it because of who they are. Reply:I don't believe so. No one has ever said that "justice" is just. She may be the victim of the legal system, but no more than millions of others are. That she has a high profile has nothing to do with her crime. I will pray for the Hilton family, especially poor sheltered Paris who didn't even have the gumption to admit her faults and accept responsibility for her actions and/or her lack thereof. What a role model for our youth? It truly saddens me for all of us.

What to do when failing a class and need to get into grad school?

I am currently taking a statistics class and need a C in order to get into the grad school program I've been conditionally accepted to. I already hired a tutor but I have the option of taking another course at a different university that may be easier for me. The only problem is I would need to quit a case I have (I work with autistic children) and need to know what to do by tomorrow!

Should I stick with a class I'm struggling with and hope I get a C with the tutor?

Or should I start the new class and make my company mad?

What to do when failing a class and need to get into grad school?
If you need the statistics class to be accepted, it's likely you will be doing more of that kind of work in grad school. Taking the harder class will probably better prepare you for what lies ahead, especially if this is an area that isn't your strongest. You should stick with the class and work very hard. And with the tutor helping, you may very well end up surprised at how well you'll do if you persist and really try to learn.
Reply:start the new class. your company should understand that school is your first priority. you should not take the risk of not getting a C and basically throwing away everything you have worked so hard for.

Is there a site i can find tutorials about geometry? I really don't want to ask for a tutor b/c I would feel embrassed. I want to take a stand and try to do better. I'm failing geometry with a 67.. I am doing extremely well in all my other classes. I don't want one class to bring me down!

Believe me, you shouldn't get embarrassed to have a tutor. I knew someone who had a 89 in Chemistry and got a tutor because he didn't like a B+. Having a tutor is nothing to be ashamed of -- they exist to help you do better. If you really have a 67, you should get a tutor because you will get more help if you get information from another math teacher in addition to your regular one. If you can afford a tutor, I would highly recommend finding and getting one because one would help you do a lot better.

I'm a sophomore (only 15) and I want to start making money. ...., just moved, new school, well I just want a nice clean start for everything. I want to tutor b/c I'm good with this type of stuff and you get good money but I'm up for anything except fast food. What's the first step?

Where do I start to find and get a job in high school?
If you want to tutor, create a flier and send it to all the schools nearby as well as churches. Decide your rates and go from there.

Other than that, go to area businesses that you think you'd like to consider. Go around and ask for applications. Have your resume on hand to hand in, too (on your resume include what you'd add to a company, any classes of interest you've taken and any volunteer experience or whatever that you have). Fill out the applications and turn them in with the resume. Call each employer about a week later if you haven't heard from them yet to follow up. Ask if they have any current openings and if they've seen your application.

If you have transportation (mom, dad, bicycle, etc.), you can probably widen your search a bit.
Reply:Start at the bottom such as a grocery store just to start makin money and at the same time try to look into getting a job as a tutor so your not just sitting around waiting for that oppurtunity to come up and you'll be making money while your waiting. But grocery stores always hire teenagers, its the easiest job.

How to get my mother to help me?

When I was younger she would help me all the time. And I used to do really good. But the problem is I need someone to sit with me and go through my math homework with me, otherwise I dont see my mistakes or correct them. Also the problem is I dont have enough confidince in myself in math, so I don't want to do the work and it makes me feel even more bad about myself. now I'm failing and I need to bring my grade up. But I'm only failing b/c no one is helping me.

My mother doesnt want to help me with my work anymore, b.c she says that it is the teachers job, but I dont understand why she helped me when I was younger then. Also, I dont want a tutor b/c I feel guilty for my mother having to pay money for the tutor and I feel guilty for asking for help.

If I tell my mother I'll make dinner or do the washing in return for her to help with my homework, will she help me? B/c I really need help. Any advice.

I would like to major in physics but haven't taken a math class higher than College Algebra yet (got a C with tutoring but feel that maybe i didn't give it my all) and I am 23 years old. I want to start over again and take Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus at the college level.

A Lost Cause?
I suppose it's possible that you're simply not intelligent enough to handle the math. However, people of normal intelligence do well in math if they are truly interested in it and enjoy the challenge and knowledge. That's really what it takes. Enough interest to "give it [your] all". You cannot succeed in any sufficiently challenging endeavor unless you enjoy it. That's a simple fact of life, in my experience. I don't mean evey minute, I mean overall and after the work is done. Few things worthwhile can be accomplished without a struggle.

Reply:Not a lost cause at all. I've had several students who have done exactly what you are talking about doing. Every single one (that I know of) has been successful in that route.
Reply:Keep in mind that you'll be in classes with people who got A's in geometry, pre-cal, and cal when they were in high school. They could teach college algebra, yet are daily challenged by the multiple problem sets they have to turn in each week.

Also, you're going to have to learn what you didn't get out of your algebra class (the difference between a C and an A) at some point. So you'll be learning that while also learning 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade math.

I've seen people who did much better at algebra have a lot of trouble in freshman, calculus-based physics, never mind the upper-level material.

You really shouldn't minimize the C, not as much as the first three answerers have. You can put the word "college" in front of it, but in the end, it is just 9th-grade material.

Perhaps you could elaborate on why you're interested in physics. Are you sure you're doing this for the right reasons? I've taught students who did poorly in a math class, then went on the next semester to take the next class up to try to "redeem" themselves (which I think is a very bad reason) and they got an even worse grade than the semester before. They didn't appreciate that the following semester's material presumed mastery of the prior material. They also underestimated that the earlier material is significantly easier than the more advanced material.

The prior answer is correct. you should get a local tutor coming to your home./ You can obtain one by looking up tutoring in your local yellow pages.
Reply:You might consider another option rather than dropping out. Online classes are notoriously hard and have too much work. It seems to me that you may want to consider another way of completing high school. I would check with a high school counselor to see if there are any GED courses being offered in your area.

You might also complain to the company who is offering the class online. They are obligated to provide you with help if it is part of the course. You may ask them to delay the exam until they fulfill their obligations.

You might want to think about your future a bit more. How is it that failing one class will be the deciding factor for the rest of your entire life? Do you really know the ramifications of dropping out? It means you will spend your life on the outside looking in. You will have to do a series of meaningless jobs with low pay and no health insurance.

Try thinking this through more carefully. This course is not the only course or the only way. Please seek help. The local community college may also help you with advisement. Your life has a purpose and a meaning. Please think about that and regroup.

I actually am a US history (along with about 12 other subjects) tutor who goes to private homes and help high school students. I suggest you get once of these, its pricey no doubt (about 35/hr) but worth it most of the time...

First off, try to calm down. I don't think it's unusual for kids who've previously been to school to struggle initially with having to master (or rather re-master) learning by themselves.

At school, kids can soon take for granted that there's a teacher there to help them and 'rescue' them and tell them what they should be doing and how and why to do it (and, in heaps of schools, it's an approach and an attitude that teachers actively encourage and foster). It's what some homeschoolers mean by 'spoon feeding' you your education...but, as a homeschooler, you pretty much have to chuck out all those assumptions and re-learn how to master things by yourself and for yourself, without depending on the help of anyone else. It's something that comes heaps easier and heaps more naturally to kids that have never been to school, that have never fallen for that line about somehow "needing" a teacher's help before it is possible for them to learn anything.

As for your history course, all you need to do right now is print off the multiple choice questions and possible answers and then hit the books or reliable websites (but, before you take them at face value, make sure the sources they cite for their information are reliable!) and then just cross-check their information with the possible answers you have in front of you.

Similarly, take the titles of the two remaining units, find yourself a couple of decent US history textbook (possibly from the library) or websites and make some notes of your own to work from and study with. Also you might find it helps to research and write a couple of essays of your own in order to help you 'get inside' the topics you need to write about to get your remaining marks.
Reply:There are many other homeschooling options than the one you seem to be using. Talk to Mom about just buying some workbooks for you to do in different subject areas and some novels to read. It would be less expensive than an online curriculum, and Mom could choose things that would fit your needs and interests. Home schooling is not simply school at home. Hey guys! I really need help on this question! I've been stuck on this problem for a week %26gt;.%26lt; Here it goes:

You don't want to read TWO values at a time. You're not looking at pairs in the file. With the algorithm you had written, where you read a+b, then a+b again, imagine that your input file was:

1 8 2 9

Then you'd read 1[a] and 8[b], and it wouldn't decrease. Next you'd read 2[a] and 9[b] and it wouldn't decrease. But you'd miss the decrease from 8 to 2.

You need to look at each individual value and see if it is less than the last value you read. You can do this by storing the previous read value, and comparing it to the current read value (and then shifting the 'current' to 'previous' before reading again).

Then just take the first number store is at a maximum, if the next number is larger than store THAT as the maximum etc... if a number is ever smaller just trigger a boolean flag to be false, and print "NO" and exit the program. Otherwise if the boolean is true at the end of the loop then print "yes";

That's how I would do it. You take the number (or variable) that they all have in common and put it outside of the parenthesis. Then, on the inside of the parenthesis, you put what the numbers are without the term you have taken out, so if you were to distribute, it would come back to what you started with.

Okay, so take a guess how weird do you think my little sister is on a scale of 1-10. One being she is completely normal and boring in everyway and 10 being she is a complete freak of nature.

E = n/2 *k*T,

where k is the Boltzmann constant, T is the temperature in Kelvin, and n is the number of degrees of freedom. Nitrogen is a diatomic molecule, so it has 3 degrees of freedom in which it can translate, and 2 degrees of freedom in which it can rotate, and 2 degrees of freedom in which it can vibrate. The total internal energy per molecule is then

E = 7/2 k*T,

but the question is only interested in the kinetic (translational) energy. So,

KE_avg = 3/2 k*T

To find the total kinetic energy multiply the average energy per particle by the total number of particles. Use the ideal gas relation,

P*V = n*k*T

to find the total number of particles. Remember, pressure is usually in N/m^2, and volume is usually in m^3. And always use absolute temperature. And above all, pay attention to the units of 'k'.

I think this is relatively easy. The electric force is equal to the charge times the electric field. Fe=q(E). This is because the electric field is defined as the elctric force that acts on a small positive charge. That can be said as E=(Fe/q). It can then be rewritten in the form I gave you earlier Fe=q(E). I get -.72 Newtons here. the negative sign indicates it is a repulsive force. This is because your charge is neg and your field is positive so this indicates the force will be in the direction of east.

If c - 3a - b does equal 0, then we have infinitely many solutions.

There is no way that the system can have a unique solution.
